Default Moving To A Mac?

After a decade of using a PC for PT, I'm considering moving to a Macbook Pro. How well can PT run on a Macbook Pro w/one SSD? You can configure the latest retinas with up to a 1TB of PCIe SSD.

The plus of using my Lenovo (PC) workstation laptop is that I can install 4 separate SSDs in the laptop. The plus on the Mac is also access to Logic X. I also like that you can run PT on a Macbook w/its internal soundcard (ASIO4ALL is not the greatest solution on the PC)

Anyone move from a PC to a Mac and not regret it?

If you're recording with plugin you would wanna be on an HDX system or the like so you won't have issues with latency

I use PT on both pc and Mac at at 32 buffer and while HDX would be really nice, latency isn't really an issue for me...

Yes as long as the plugins you use WHILE RECORDING doesn't have inherent latency or doesn't require latency to operate then you'll be fine.

Are you able to use PT on your Macbook w/the System Drive only?

Yes I can but I haven't really tested the track/plugin count using the system drive instead of an external.

Good point! I really only use basic eq, compression and reverb when tracking. It can be an issue though if you've mixed a session using plugins with latency but have to record something new. In that case it's usually not a big deal to deactivate those plugins during the recording.

A MacBook Pro can be a great little PT setup, if you get the right features. The fastest i7 quad core cpu, 8GB of RAM minimum(16 is better) and avoid the Fusion drives. I can't speak for how well it will do recording to the internal SSD, but I have been impressed with HDN(small Magma chassis) and an external audio drive(150+ tracks with lots of plugins, AND video at the 128 buffer setting)
