Default Acronis TI trashed by user reviews on CNET.com

Hey all,

I've been researching imaging and backup software, and have been impressed that many of you have been recommending Acronis True Imagine (TI) software.

Interestingly, when I did a Google search to find reviews, I found the CNET site, which revealed such a disturbing tale regarding user opinions of TI.

http://download.cnet.com/Acronis-Tru...-10168093.html

For the latest version 10 of TI, there were more than double the users that rated the app a "one" star vs. a "five". That's hugely discouraging.

The redeeming part of the review is that CNET gave TI a 5-star rating, as did other reviewers. This brings up a whole discussion onto itself about the validity of user reviews, but that discussion might come another time

Now, of course, I'd much rather believe what you guys are saying, given that there are not too many desirable software alternatives, but this brings up a few questions for PT users that us TI.

The older versions of TI scored considerably higher in CNET user reviews. What version of TI are you using, and how have your experiences been?

One big complaint is that the app just doesn't work, i.e., it creates faulty files with errors.

Also, while I have your attention... Did you purchase the DVD version, or the simply the download?

Another bit of good news is that Acronis is having a "Back to School" sale on TI Home at $29.95 for the download!

So, any comments or stories on your experiences w. TI will be appreciated!

Yeah, That's kind of like saying "Pro Tools trashed by users on the DUC."

For most people, when things are running smoothly, they find no need to post about it.

I have had no problems with True Image (well, none that weren't actually caused by me, anyway), and still recommend it. I've purchased the last 3 versions as a download.

Works great here. Just bought (download) the latest version & used it last night. No problem.

User error or lack of skill looks like the reason for that(since the CNET editor's rating was 5 stars). I have an older version(ver.9) that I love(but will have to update as its not compatible with Windows7)

I still use Acronis Home 2009 and I have never had an issue with it.. It's worked even better than I would have thought it would.

I recommend it highly.

Well here is the problem with user reviews.

a) You have no idea what their background and experience are.

b) You have no idea what hardware they are using.

c) You have no idea what their requirements are (half the time the user doesn't either).

So here is my opinion. Acronis True Image has worked fine for me, is excellent, and meets my requirements. I have never had a problem with it.

2009 working fine here as well.

I also used Paragon Disk Manager 2010 to successfully clone a hard disk!
Acronis, however, is easier to operate, very intuitive, IMHO.

FWIW - we use True Image here a lot and it's worked great.

(This is NOT an endorsement in any way, shape or form, by Avid - this is merely an expression of one departments experience with it.)

Better be careful, they may see this and say it's endorsed by Avid! However, I too use Acronis 2010
