Default Cable for J-Station

I want to connect the Johnson J-Station I just recieved straight to the Digicard.The J-Station has the s/pidf output.Is the cable I need just called a s/pidf cable? What kind of cable do I ask for at guitar center?Thanx.

I also was wondering about balanced versus unbalanced cables.Does this mean mono(unbalanced) or stereo(balanced)??

it might be the "spdif"-cable... make it shure that it´s not only a chinch... i think the spdif-cable has 75 ohms and the chinch less or more... don´t know exactly anymore... but make shure the digital-cable...

Just make sure its 75 ohms.it will be a single cable with rca type connectors.you can get by with video cable but would suggest perhaps a good directional monster,studio link etc.

Hello

I can't use my J-Station until my friend comes over this week. I just wanted to ask one more question before he comes over.

Is there anything I need to make sure is checked in the setup box in PT when I'm using the spidf input? This is probably easy,but I just want to make things as painless as possible when he comes over. I appreciate the help.

Make sure to check the S/PDIF input box under the Setups-Hardware Setup menu.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yeah, make sure you have PTLE in external sync mode:
Setups -> Hardware -> Sync Mode -> S/PDIF (RCA)

Should work fine. Never had any problems with my J-Station.

Make sure the session is set to the correct sample rate. I never use my J-Station's digital I/O (or at least very rarely, since I prefer to use its line outs, my converters and have the Digi 002 clocked via incoming lightpipe with a Lucid GENx6), but I THINK it transmits at 24 bit / 44.1 KHz. So make sure your session is set correctly or you'll have problems. Other than that and the Setup | Hardware | Sync Mode | S/PDIF and the use of the proper cable (75 Ohm RCA connector S/PDIF) you should be fine.

Thanks for all your help folks

I have the 001 and I am under the immpression that if I connect via s/pidf then I would be bypassing the converters in the 001 box and get a possibly better recording of the guitars. Am I correct on this? I don't have any outboard converters or pre-amps complimenting my 001 at this point. Thanks again my peeps of the DUC.

Yes, when you route audio into the Digi 001 (or MBox or 002 / 002R) via a digital input (S/PDIF / Lightpipe), then you are bypassing the Digi's converters.
