It all boils down to how much you can spend. The only people I see put down the MineMe is usualy people that have spent alot more for other gear. I wish I had 8 Grace or Great River with a rossetta or myteck behind that. But I woud probably have HD if I could aford that stuff. I dream of the day but till then my little LE 001 is preaty sweet. Now if they would only let the cat out of the bag on a 003

As well Yavuz is talking about building the units, not buying them assembled. If you have the skills, probably a great way to build up some "solder" equity in your rack, although I'm unsure of resale value.

Well to start, they must have raised their prices since you ordered if you are referring to assembled kits. Two c84's would be $648. Not to nitpick or anything .
Take a BETTER look at their site since I was talkin about DIY from the beginning.
Not assembled kits.
I also added that I had no prior experience other than soldering a couple of pickups.

This is tha page you want;
http://www.seventhcirclestudios.com/SCA/prices.htm

Add 2 X C84KF + 1 X PS03KA + 1 X CH01KF and it will equal to $599.-

It is cheaper than every other pro - quality Mike pre out there.
You would have to spend over $1500 to get similar quality sound.

If you talk about J99 (Jensen twin-servo) you would have to spend a lot more.

I am also very surprized that nobody listened to the sample I have posted above to understand what kind of recording quality I was talking about.
None of you are curious?????

Dude,
I listened to your mp3, and I think it sounds amazing (although it IS a Lowden guitar after all )
Anyway, I'm totally interested in the SCA stuff myself now- thanks for sharing the info...

Can you say something about the Apex 415 as well? It certainly can't be all that bad a mic, and it's only around $200?!?

Cheers,
Andrew

It's actually around $120 her;
APEX 415
About APEX 415, I want to say that it is solid large diaphram condenser with good set of features.
It has a few patterns (Fihure 8, Pmni. Cardioid) and -10db switch.
Mine came with the shock mount.

So, for around $450 for 1 channel C84 ($600 for 2) and $120 for the APEX,
you can have the sound of an expensive studio right at your home.

I am surprized that you were the only one cared enough to hear the sample to see what it's about.
The original poster also heard it but not with a good pair of speakers.
I think you guys should all hear it since it will help you understand what kind of sonic clarity I am talking about.
I have an 002R and so does half of this forum.
So, it should be a good comparison for people here.
Again, I recorded it flat with one mike APEX 415 into C84 into 002R.

Tell you what, I'll do better than that. I recorded a classical guitarist in a radio studio yesterday using the Portico. I sent you a totally unprocessed mp3 bounce of a song he did. No compression, no eq - what you're hearing is straight out of the 5012.

The Neve is very quiet and doesn't have a scooped mid range or hyped high end. You can, of course, do that with equalization if you want to, so I've always hated it when mics or preamps are designed with scooped mids or hyped high (or low) frequencies. I want to make that decision & don't want the equipment to make it for me. I've actually developed the ears that I now understand making a track "clearer" often means it will actually be LESS detailed. Anything can be made to sound more "clear" by boosting the 2 - 4 kHz range, but making one range louder supresses the others, so you actually lose detail.

Anyway, you can judge for yourself.

dBHead, I heard your sample.... (I hope it was you who emailed me or I heard another sample )
I think C84 would sound much better for clasical recording.
But... that is me.

Your Neve, on the other hand, is a very nice sounding pre.
It might be better for Electric guitar though, (Or bass, kick, snare etc...)

Compare it to the sample I posted and you will see what I mean.
C84 is more flat.
Neve sounds a bit mid-rangy.. (Opposite of scooped.)

Most importantly, SCA is also selling Neve Clone (called N72) which is very very similar to an original Neve.
I bought 2 for $325 per channel ($650 for 2)

Hey dB, I'd like to hear your sample too. If you would email it to [email protected] , I can probably give it a listen this weekend & Yavuz' as well.

Thanks much!!

I listened to it and was impressed with your version of "Blue In Green". Its nice to hear that on acoustic. Oh yeah, the mike/pre combo sounds good too. I think I might pick up one of those kits...I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron.
