Looking for advice on SSD internal

Hi I've had the Dell xps8700 in my signature for around 5 years and it works fine although it starting to feel a little slow with the recent proliferation of FIR eqs and hybrid plugins so yesterday while discussing the possibility of buying a new PC a friend suggested I should look at upgrading my storage first, especially using SSD which it's something I've never used or know anything about.

I could use any info, tips, heads ups or experiences you would like to share and you have my appreciation beforehand. At this point I only know I can get 1TB for less than $200 but that's as far as my knowledge goes for now. Thanks!

All my SSDs are Samsung. I've had no complaints.

Intel p660 here, as good as it gets in a Trashcan that is not PCIe 3.0 spec

Same! 850/860 EVO’s and 9XX Pro series and now we also added quite a few portable Samsung T5’s as they are really good price and fast and stable for the external drives.

So SSDs can use different types of connections? These are the ports on my motherboard, I can see there are 2 different kinds of PCIe and several SATA, would any of them work with SSDs?

Of course you use whatever connector your computer has, but if you can choose like old cheesegraters you would benefit from a PCIe card adapter that gives your SSD full speed and not limited to SATA bottleneck

So they can be connected to any port? Which one is the fastest I have?

Fastest you have is 16x PCIe but you likely want to keep your GPU there

Not sure if I remember this right but PCIe 2.0 x1 is not faster than SATA 6gbps so you are likely better off using the connectors meant for hard drives. Different story if your system has x4 available
