Can I use mbox as a mic-pre in a performnace?
I need 48v phantom power for performing at church - can I use mbox with a laptop as a mic-pre, or do I need to buy seperate one?
What would you recommend for low priced one ? STUDIO PROJECTS VTB1 or Presunus Tubepre? or is there a better for a few hundred $? Thanks in advance...

It will work as long as you set the mix knob to direct. But it sounds like its not worth it or maybe there are better alternatives. For one, doesn't the mixer at church have phantom power? What mic do you intend to use and what are you micing? Maybe you would spend your money better getting a nice dynamic mic? Rolls makes a phantom power box that uses a pair of 9V batteries and is under $50.
