Default What spec notebook do you recommend for mbox?

How fast a CPU in mh do I need for a good recording?
Would 256 memory do, or should I get double that?
What are you all using for getting good quality out of mbox and a notebook?

The "Best Laptops for PTLE" thread perminantly at the top of this forum, will cover all of your questions, and more.

You need more ram than 256meg

One suggestion, I am running an MBox on an HP/Compaq Tablet Laptop, which was having a lot of performance problems until I added a Lacie external d2 firewire drive - runs like a dream now. Even if you get a laptop with a fast disk, an external drive would still be useful for moving sessions around.

One other thing; if you do use an external drive forget USB2, as it clashes with the MBox.

This is system dependent and not universal. I use a Maxtor combo FW/USB2 in USB2 with both an 002R and an mbox with no issues. Soem USB busses will be downgraded to USB1.1 if you have a USB 1.1 peripheral plugged in which will kill you HD. But this is less common.

The safe route is always a combo FW/USB2 because there are also problems with the 002 sharing the FW bus with a drive.
