If it doesn't stick, you have a corrupt system file (best to delete the plist file for AMS and let it rebuild)
Thanks for your post, yes in theory this should work!
After deleting the Device and System settings in /L*/P*/Audio the USB interface that I use for system sound outside of ProTools still defaults to 192 KHz.
The HDX card did indeed remember the 44.1 KHz setting but I fear it is only a matter of time before it will jump to 192 KHz, as it keeps doing every couple of weeks.
Will report back though, thanks again!

edit: I will experiment though replacing the USB interface with a AVB based interface as it might be the 100ft USB extender causing trouble.
