The last version that was approved for mountain lion is 10 which would run on your hardware, both interface and laptop.

Compatibility info here. Last version approved for ML 10.8.5 was/is PT 12.4

Yes but he needs the drivers for his Mbox. It seems that it went up to mountain lion on 10

Mbox driver info here and Mbox2 driver info here. Supported up to High Sierra

Mac release 10.3.9 is more stable. Higher oses would be “ pushing it”
It’s up to you, if you want to take the chance of having to manually delete files in order to uninstall, then take the plunge.

my 2013 MacBook (8GB) cannot upgrade to 16GB RAM unfortunately. Its the way it's built...

Hi, welcome to the community.

For future use, please bookmark www.everymac.com which has full specs easily available. It tells us that early 2013 RAM is not upgradeable as it is soldered to the motherboard.
