Default hi! and I need some straight shootin' (yes im texan)

Ive been reading and reading all day and I've read many different threads with different answers.
I had ProTools 7.x on a Vista machine using digi002. The machine crapped out and now im running Windows 7 on a new machine i7. The Protools 7 wont install properly.
Can't get it to work.
Ran to Guitar Center and theyre trying to sell me the 499.00 Full. Im like ???? . Then I go on ebay and they tell me that PT 9 Crossgrade is an upgrade and if I cant get PT 7 workin then PT 9 wont install. Im like ??? .
I read the Avid Q&A does say that previous owners can enjoy the discount but never clear that I need to have a previous running version on the machine or not. I know I'm close to finding an answer.

Will PT 9 Crossgrade for $249.00 get me up and running on Windows 7? Let's conclude that I will not have a previously installed version on my machine cuz I cant get it to work. Ive read threads here and some say yes but a couple said I needed PT8.

can someone just confirm. If someone says "yes you can install crossover" then imma say that PT sales rep's in retail stores need to get trained a little better.

thank for any info!!!

The version of Pro Tools you were previously using doesn't matter.

For the crossgrade, all you need is the hardware serial number found on the back of your 002, and an iLok with an iLok account.

It's better not to have a previous version installed.

thank you very much. i felt that it was going to come to that. however i needed to confirm. What got me was like how everyone in the store was like "you gotta get the full install for $499.00...."
that made me feel uneasy and a little irritated. I was just trying to get back to where i left off with my production.

They were trying to make their sales.. I hate when that happens. It kinda reminds me a professional shop here down in Montreal, where the guy kept sending me emails after emails for months, just because I dared made a query about their c|24 prices.

Hope you get everything sorted out.
