That is correct about the number of inputs. It is an Mbox and was never designed or advertised to be a replacement for a 002/003 type interface.

Although it does sound light years better in quality.

But if you need more inputs, rather then buying a preamp with a digital out, you're probably better off spending the money on an interface that has the inputs you need. Many people are very happy with the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 or 56.

Yes, a Saffire 56 is on the way and the Mbox Pro is going on eBay.

I assumed, like the idiot I am, the 8 inputs meant the same thing it did in my Digi 002. Especially coming in the fancy bundle with the Euphonix Artist Mix.

So, the setup will be the 56 I/O, PT 10, Eu Artist Mix, Quad core iMac Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and a Lacie 1TB ext FW drive to run the sessions on.

I hope everyone gets along.

If you have (or are buying) any of the newer Imacs with Thunderbolt, then be sure to get Apple's $29 Thunderbolt to firewire adapter for your hard drive.

If nothing else, it will allow you to have the hard drive on a separate buss from your Saffire 56, so you don't have to daisy-chain anything.

Note: if you are ordering one of the just released 2013 Imacs, you will definitely need to get one of these, and preferably two, as there are no firewire ports on the new ones. So in that case, get one for the Saffire, and one for the hard drive, so you can use one from each thunderbolt port.
