Default Centre channel from Quad recordings

Hi to all!
I have made some great Quad ambience recordings and want to use them in my mixes, but I struggle with centre channel. It leaves a hole in the middle. Sadly, there is no divergence control on quad tracks. Upmixing plugins adds centre but really smears the picture in all other channels. I tried to have send to centre channel, but that results in phasing down mix. How do you deal with centre channel with quad recordings? Is there a way how to get centre without messing up Quad tracks?

Best regards!
