Um... You've been able to have more than one plugin window open in Pro Tools for years. Since before AAX, even.

The PCI-E cards are faster than Thunderbolt yet the latency is pretty high.

Yes, it lets you track at low latency by using plug-ins in the audio interface but the minute you just pull it up on a recorded track the latency is pretty high.

Two years actually. Pretty advanced stuff there. This feature came out with PT10. Even Brian Carter admitted it was long overdue.

2 years? We've been able to have more than one plug-in window open sense version 5 over 10 years ago

I've used Pro Tools since 2001 and version 5.1 and I've always been able to have more than one plug-in window open at a time - as many as I wanted to Shift+Click on.

Not sure where you get 2 years from. Adobe Audition had (since remedied) the one plug-in GUI limitation, but not Pro Tools.

Cheers,

Apparently I have no idea what I'm talking about. Seriously though. Forgive me for being a prick. I'm just particularly good at it.

Cheers,
Word. My earliest version was 5.9 and I could definitely open more than one plugin window.

I can certainly think of other "low blows" than having a few windows open.

I think there's confusion here over real-time vs Audio Suite windows. The ability to have more than one AS window open at once is new to PT10. I don't remember ever not being able to open more than one real time plug-in window at once, and I go back to 3.1.

Cool Re: Transition to AAX: A Real Programmer's Perspective

I found Frank's explanation extremely helpful and reassuring. I kept using Digi 001 well past the point when better technology was avail, but my OWN inertia kept me from upgrading even as hardware and software got better. Now these changes remind me of that time period and while my first concern is "how much is this going to cost me" - it sounds like in the long run things will improve and be worth the trouble. I think the problem for a lot of us is simply the fact that how this will actually play out is unknown and we don't like our variables to be so um...variable.
