Default Anyone recommend a good pair of headphones for overall use?

Just wondering what everyone is using. I currently have a pair of 40 dollar KOSS headphones that are probally 6 years old. Would like something better but not too expensive. Whats the latest on headphones?

Thanks,

Jeff

Depends on your music style - for electronica I use Technics DJR1200 which are comfortable; have a loooong lead and sound good.

Some of the current Sony studio models are also great.

Sennheiser HD600
I use them about 1 year and found it`s best.
It`s open, comfortable, and very good sounding.

AKG 240M...Nice, comfortable, and they sound great. Depending on what they are hooked up to, they might not be loud enough for some people. When hooked up to the Digi001, they are plenty loud enough for me.

Soul Shaker,

It depends completely on your needs.
First, do you want open, half open
or closed headphones?
Drummers, e.g. usually like closed
headphones. And violin players may prefer
open ones or half open.
I think AKG 240M is an excellent choice,
suiting most needs.
If you like to buy closed ones, check
out the classic Beyerdynamic DT100.
They have been manyfactured since the
sixties almost without design change.
However, they sound very different to AKG 240M.

AKG 240Ms. These are absolutely the truest sounding headphones out there within reach of the average person's budget. Sony's headphones are a lot more fun, since they sound more like home stereos (extra presence, mucho bass), but they don't sound real or accurate, and they will make you think that your mixes are a lot better than they are.

That's true about the Sonys, but they do sound GREAT. I've been wearing headphones as a radio DJ for 18 years, and the 7506s are the best in comfort, durability, and sound I've ever used....(DIGI, you have me very curious about the AKGs now). I just got the new Sony V700 (the silver ones) because they look cool and I figured if they weren't 300.00 (only $110.00) then they shouldn't sound too "over-polished". I was wrong. They sound WAY over the top and you can't help but get a bit dissappointed when you take 'em off and listen on a home stereo. You're getting a false impression to some degree. They just sound "too good". From my experience, the $99 Sony V7506 should be fine for you. They're pretty much an industry standard.

Sony 7506's. True they do have an enhanced presence, or "high-end", but you quickly learn how to adjust your mixes accordingly. I find the bass to be pretty accurate for my mixes, and being rugged, I've had mine 3 yrs now...perfect shape being thrown around a bit.
