What about AKD Pro Audio laptops?

I also checked out the link to Terra Digital Audio. Anybody know much about their notebooks? And how the heck would you get one anyway? It seems that the company is so new that they don't even have any dealers yet. And I couldn't really see any way to order a system from their website.

I've also been eyeing the Dell Inspiron 9200, but I've gotten some negative feedback from former Dell users about the quality and lack of service and support. Any opinions?

I haven't heard of AKD laptops. Most people in this forum seem to be focused on Dell and E Machines. I was actually after an IBM - being that they're listed on Digi's compatability page... but have had no feedback on those yet.

Does anyone have the Acer Aspire 1524??? I've looked online to find places to purchase it (for price research) and couldn't really find any places that sell it... Also, I'm debating between the Acer Aspire 1524 and the Emachine 6811...I know a lot of people are loving their 6811..but on the front page, the Acer a better performance test rating. Any thoughts would be waaaaaaay helpful. Thanks in advanced.

Hi there, I'm new to all this and looking into investing in a tasty little 002 Rack, the only problem that I have is I'm totally confused and am just scared that if I spend oodles of £'s on one of these it wont work with my existing laptop, I mean I read all the compatibility info on the site and think that it wont work with my laptop (4,200 rpm HDD etc) but then I come on here and read stuff and think that it might, I cant really afford to go out and but a new laptop but could a)upgrade my HDD to a 7,200 rpm one b) buy a USB 7,200rpm or c)buy a firewire 7,200rpm drive however I only have one firewire port (Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller) which is integrated which (from what I've read on here) is bad. I was wondering if its worth bothering to get one of these babies, ahhhhhh so confused any help/advice you can give would be great as I've searched high and low on here for the best part of 2 hours!

Cheers

JC

P.S. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place

Looks fine but I would suggest the following: take the laptop to a Digidesign dealer and ask them to install the 002 Rack on your laptop... most good dealers will do this. And that will answer your questions. You may then want to see how the demo session runs and perhaps do a 32-track recording and see how that runs.

Thanks for the advice BigG I think thats certainly the way forward as I'd like to be sure that it will work I'll definately need a firewire HDD though as 4,200rpm is just way to slow

Has anyone actually used the Gateway 7510 GX or any of the recommended computers for a couple of months of consistent recording and editing without problems?

I'd like to buy a reliable PC notebook (under $2000) to run LE before I go out and buy a Powerbook 1.67 for about $2500.
Most of the Pro's seem to use Mac and have advised me that it will run Pro-Tools "out of the box" without tweaking.

Thanks for any info you can give.

Richard

I have been using a Toshiba P25 model for about a year and have not ecnountered any problems. Specs include a Pentium 4 2.8, 512 of ram, 800 FSB, an 80 gb hard drive, and a dvd burner. The screen is a 17" wide screen. I have been able to run 3 Waves R Verbs as well as the remaining extra plugins on a full 32 track system that was recorded at 24 bit 48 khz. The computer gets slow due to the amount of DSP being drained by the R Verbs, but the system runs great. Highly recommended.
