Think I'll go for an Allen and Heath Zed-R16. Heard good things over at other forums

well, 7.3 is tucked away in its own little 20gig partition. it only comes out for live shows. it just works. i don't want to try something new when someone is paying me to record a live show.

I've got one - thats gonna be my live & on location rig (straight into the laptop - was using Reaper for this before PT9)

Currently running a 003 Rack+ in the studio & selling my 003 desk to finance a Euphonix MC-Mix.... just to tide me over til I go HD Native!!

Would this mean that I could use something such as an A&H GSR24 through firewire into Pro Tools 9 directly now?

Are there any limitations at all besides the 32 channel limitation?

From what I was able to find, it will work.

BTW: It's actually GS-R24, and if you know where the "GS" came from, there's a bunch of information on that forum...
A&H had the GS-R24 running PTMP thru a m-audio lightbridge at Musicmesse a few months ago.

How's that setup (the Zed R16 and PT9) working out for you so far?

Really good converters, no latency when tracking, the easy ability to use external gear with gobs of patching capabilities. No, it's not an Apogee, but to my ears it is as good as almost everything else. I bought an 820i first to test it's capabilities and have been thoroughly impressed by what they have done with this series of mixers.

If interested, check out the webinar that Mix Magazine did with this mixer/interface and Pro Tools 8:
http://event.on24.com/view/presentat...7&mode=launch#

It's very illuminating!

+1 on the 1640i. Actually bought it for it's compatibility with M-Powered but upgraded to PT9 (a week later). At the same time I upgraded to a Mac Pro with lots of ram and processor. Been tracking mostly in the home studio and it sounds good. Looking forward recording live soon.

Larry.

P.S. Great Mix Mag video.

Mac 12 core
PRo tools 9
Fireface ufx monitoring with the totalmix fx dsp mixer
ssl mynx preamp and compressor in one of the line ins in fireface
headphone splitter to the recording room for 8 phones output

Unfortunately you cant turn of software monitoring in PT 9 so i split the faders in PT so when you hit record on a track they set to zero. That way im only hearing my monitor mix through totalmix. This is ok for normal tracking, but [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ty for dubbing session.

Avid. Please incorporate the option off turning sotware monitoring off.

Just picked up a Yamaha i88x on ebay that I'm hoping will work. It worked in Logic so I'm crossing my fingers. Like a few other previous posts I'm going to use this until I can afford a UNL-2 Expanded.
