iMac to ext. hard drive to 003 connection. Will it work?

Hello,
I just got an iMac with 2.66GHZ and 4G Ram and want to record onto an external firewire drive. The iMac has a firewire 800 port and hubs are hard to find or don't work well. There is an unfavorable review on the Belkin 6 port firewire hub.

Is it true that I can use a firewire 800 to 400 cable out of the iMac and into the external Hard drive, then have a cable out of the external hard drive and into the 003 rack? If so, is this as good as finding a high quality hub and having them on 2 seperate inputs?

You dont need a hub, just get a cable 9 to 6 pins, available at newegg.com, or best buy, or fry's, connect 003 to Imac, then from the 003 to the hard drive, then from the hard drive you can keep adding other hard drives, daisy chained. or you can go from the I mac to your hard drive and then the 003, either way will work, i do that with mbox 2 pro and Mac mini.

Separate inputs are still the same bus, makes no difference IMO

Yes, I go from my Macbook pro firewire 800 using the 800->800 to my Western Digital Mybook studio then 800 -> 400 to my 003r.

If I go to the 003R then hard drive I get frequent drop outs.

I used to go to the Mbox 2 Pro first, until this morning, my hard drive would't start, I thought it was gonna die, and it's fairly new, so after the big scare, I decided to switch and got MacMini-->Hard Drive-->Mbox, and it started right away, so I guess I'll leave it like that from now on, I know I gotta get a second hard drive, and it'll be a Glyph, as soon as budget allows.
