BIG Digi001 problem - please help!

OK guys, I'm having a huge problem....

Every time I try to open up Pro Tools LE, the DAE and the plugins load up and then the software says "Pro Tools Hardware not installed or in use by another program". This is happening even when there are no other programs open.

I know that the hardware is installed because I can get ITunes or anything else to play through it. The DigiTest works just fine too. I have tried restarting/turning the computer off, etc, trashing all pro tools and DAE prefs, to no avail. It was working fine last night, in fact it has been working pretty much problem free for me for almost a year. Please help!!!

Sounds like you have "Digidesign" selected in your "sound" control panel.

You need to put this on "built in" or else DAE gets into conflict with the built in sound.

Don't worry, you are not the first, (nor probably the last) one to ask this question.

I just tried switching that and no dice, still have the problem...

Check the sound control panel again It must be set to 'BUILT IN', he is right it is the most common.

Restart if you havent already as well. Sometimes apps dont release control of hardware.

One other thing. make sure you dont have any apps (like iTunes) or any other Music app running. Start Pro Tools first cause the first app to start will be the one in control.

Reinstall the SW if that dosn't work because there are a few required extensions.

You might have done this but you have to restart after switching back to built in. For some reason once you choose Digi in the output panel, it retains control of the hardware even after switching back.

Thanks guys, finally fixed it. I feel dumb for having such a stupid problem!

Wait just minute. Mine is set to "Digidesign" and I've never had a problem. My system was put together by Wave Digital Systems and they know what they're doing. I can play PT, iTunes and everything else through the Digi001. Mine ain't broke so I ain't fixin' it.

Hey cool!

Mine just started doing the same thing! I "upgraded" some software/added some plugs and it's been acting funny ever since.

Ever since Mac os 9.2 , the sound control panel issue has gone away.
Im guessing the people with the issue are not on a quicksilver G4.
