Purchase a legitimate copy of Pro tools 8?

Hello, I haven't been here in years, but I still own a 002R. I was interested in firing it up and using it on my 2011 MBP. I downloaded the driver, and the interface is working properly. I just wanted to know where I could buy a copy of PT that will work with it.

BTW I'm running OSX Lion

8 is not approved for Lion, (yes, some people say it will work but some have problems)
Use the serial number from your 002 to get a copy of 10 from the Avid store at a reduced rate

It's $399 for the upgrade to 10 from any LE system. It's based on the serial number of your hardware (the 002). PT10 is a full installer and you don't need to have any previous version of Protools already installed.

And 10 will work with my 002R? The last copy of Pro tools I was using is 7. something. (I have been away for about 6 years)

I just want to play around a little and record a few things.

Yes 10 will work with your 002R. It has a pile of nice features compared to 7, but your 002R is unlikely to work with Pro Tools 11. OTOH pro Tools 10 also gives you a platform to add/use just about any 3rd party interface.

As said, you will be fine with PT10. Just be aware of a few details. You will need an iLok to run Pro Tools, and the driver is a separate installer that should be run BEFORE installing PT10. You can also consider a PT10 HD asset. When you install PT10, it installs everything(10, 10HD and CPTK). The iLok authorization tells the software which features to unlock. So you could(in theory) buy a 10HD asset(check the Buy&Sell section) for under a grand, and end up with all the features of the CPTK or HD(minus TDM processing). Something to think about(but if you go this route, make sure you are NOT buying an upgrade package as that would require some HD hardware serial number, which you won't have).

Thank you very much, I was going to ask about the iLok. I saw that the student version comes with the iLok. I might take a refresher class on PT at the city college, but if not I'll just get the upgrade.
