cursor moves unsteadily

Hi,

I've been fixing a lot of issues with Pro Tools running smoothly on my pc in the last two weeks, but one thing that still doesn't work properly is the cursor movement - when I record and playback, sometimes the cursor moves slowly to about a stop, then moves ahead to where is should be quickly, then repeats this over and over. The audio gets recorded fine and the waves on the region get recorded correctly. But it something is wrong that it's doing this. I've tried changing buffer sizes and other variables, not sure what's going on. btw I've been working with 2GB RAM

I don't believe Pro Tools settings have anything to do with it. It got worse when it wouldn't even play when I pushed play. So I shut down the computer and waited a minute and rebooted, and after launching Pro Tools, this time nothing abnormal happened. It must be a Windows xp setting or I need more RAM.
