Interface Crapping Out every few sec
Here is the situation. I installed Pro Tools on a brand new Laptop running Windows XP. The only thing installed on this PC is Windows and Pro Tools, absolutely nothing else. For some reason when I launch Pro Tools and setup a track to record, everything sounds fine. I press F12 and start recording onto the track and everything sounds great. After a few seconds the mic input goes dead and all I hear is a loud 200hz sawtooth wave playing through my headphones. If I close Pro Tools and reopen it, it resets the interface and sounds fine again. Then when I try to record again, the same thing happens. My equipment is listed below. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? I have tried multiple drivers for the interface, and it works perfectly fine on my G5 tower.
Software: Pro Tools 7.1 M-Powered for Windows Computer: AMD Turion 64 X2 1.61 GHz 2GM RAM Interface: M-Audio Firewire 1814 |

Re: Interface Crapping Out every few sec
My G5 is for recording at home. I will be doing production sound on location and lugging my tower, keyboard, monitor, etc.. is unpractical. I would like to be able to just take my laptop, interface, boom pole and mic.

Re: Interface Crapping Out every few sec
I see this exact same thing every now and then. Annoying, yes. However, it hasn't occurred frequently enough for it to be a big deal. In particular, I saw it more often on my CPU challenged laptop, and haven't seen it since switching to my Xeon Dell. I've always assumed it's something related to the PC being slow. i.e. not turning something off when it should, or something like that.
