Default Can\'t choose \"Link to Source Media\"

In the Import Session Data window, the option for "Link to Source Media (where possible)" is grayed out. I'm not trying to copy from an OMF. I need to pull in 90 min. worth of audio files (somewhere around 5 gigs worth) from another Pro tools session and really don't want to deal with double files and all that. Both sessions are 16 bit, 48 k. I tried a few other PT sessions, and wasn't able to "Link" any of those either, only "copy" showed up. Any ideas? Thanks.

are you sure bit depth, sample rate and file type are identical in each session?

Yes, I'm sure, everything that come my way gets transfered first. 16 bit, 48 k, AIFF. I pulled up my session set up window while I was importing just to double check. It was late last night and I forgot to mention I'm on 7.1 LE with DV toolkit 2. I can remember this option working under DV Toolkit 1, Could that be the problem, or are any HD guys experiencing the same thing? thanks

I had this last week. It seems that now the Import Session Data function recognizes the PTs Pref for "Always Copy files on Import" and if that is checked then you cannot Link to other sessions files.

Great, thanks for the answer Jim. That was the trick.

When you are importing a session data AAF file, MAKE SURE the bit depth matches your Pro Tools Session.

I had two different Sony cameras footage in Media Composer. One while importing had errors in it (a bug from Media Composer) turns out. I edited a 20 minute sequence and it went fine. When I created an AAF file to 'link to source media' in pro tools, that choice was greyed out.

I did notice that in the Source Properties in Pro Tools during an Import Session Data workflow, the Audio Bit Depth was 16,24

All video's audio that I've worked with so far has always been 16bit 48Khz. So to see 24 in the bit depth as well was a bit odd...

So I returned to Avid Media Composer and when I did an export I selected covert audio to 16bit and 48Khz (2 separate check boxes in the export dialog)

That solved my problem. So it maybe your problem too.
