We were installing an M2 Studio Ultra.
Computer kept going into recovery mode.

Finally pulled the PCIe drive

That's no good, but the news of it being fixed in the macOS beta is encouraging at least. Thanks for sharing that.

I've commented here many times about RAID on modern systems.

This is another reminder that RAID is not a free ride and often the complexity is not worth it over just using JBOD, especially with already super fast NVMe/PCIe drives.

Unfortunately OWC relies on SoftRAID in some of their cheaply designed switchless M.2 storage products like the OWC Express 4M2 to deliver decent looking performance. I'd just avoid those products.

Hi,
I'm thinking of something similar to the OP, upgrading my ancient cheesegrater PT 2021.6 / HDX / UAD Octo / HD I/O to a new Mac Studio with an expansion chassis. I don't need to, or want to cheap out on the expansion chassis. I should probably know this, but what is JBOD, and what is the fundamental difference between RAID and JBOD? Are Sonnet generally considered the most reliable expansion chassis? I'd probably want at least a 3-slot. Thanks!!
