Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools
Cool. I've installed paragon and it seems to be showing all my files. I've only used it briefly before. I'll stick with it for now. Man I forgot how much stuff I have to install. Getting there.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools
I just ordered an XPS 15 to replace my 2011 13" MBP. I bought the i5 as it will be more for my general purpose use and not Pro Tools, though it will get some time in on it. I will do some testing when it comes in.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools
I used my Lenovo to finish up my symphony mix. It did the offline bounce in the 11.5-12x range My previous VAIO averaged 2.5-3x.
Im in the middle of a string of 15 hour long days at the theatre so I haven't had time to get more set up work done on it. But I'm off this weekend so I should get it finished and tested by then. Hopefully I'll be using it to record my next symphony next weekend.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools
Maybe I am too risk-averse, but I would probably work it through it's paces in the studio for more than just a week before taking it out for a field recording.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools
Looks like you are well prepared, with the backup options! So the rig in your linked picture is a semi-permanent installation in the theater? I didn't realize that this was your "studio".

Yes. That's the FOH console in our 2400 seat concert hall. We have four other theatres and a baquet hall, all with full PA systems.

Re: Current top of the line Windows Laptop for Protools
I did my first stress test yesterday using DVS.
Plugged into my Dante switches, set DVS to run 32x32. Started up protools and created 32 mono audio tracks. Set them to all record (using the internal system SSD). And I ran the recording for over an hour with no issues. Granted I was just recording silence, but Protools was writing 32 audio files, none the less. I was a little disappointed, because my CPU utilization as shown in Protools was in the 50-60% range. After I stopped the recording, I checked my hardware buffer and it turns out that I forgot to change it and it was sitting at 64 Restarted the test with a 1024 buffer and Protools recorded again for over 75 minutes straight with 3-5% CPU utilization. I did do a DVerb test, but after I finished it I forgot to set it up correctly per the revised DVerb 2 specs with the 5 minute test tone. , so I'll have to rerun it today.
