Default Going from PT 2020.11 to 2020.12

I have Pro Tools 2020.11 loaded and running. I have downloaded PT 2020.12 but not installed it. Do I need to uninstall PT 2020.11 prior to installing PT 2020.12?

Using Windows 10

Yes

Welcome to the DUC!

First remove the 28 Avid Pro Tools 2020.11 Stock Plug-Ins (don't remove any extra Avid Plug-Ins you may have bought) from:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins

Then rename the Pro Tools Folder:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Pro Tools
Any new name will do - I call it:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Proof Cools

This saves reinstalling your 3rd-Party Plug-Ins.
Check for any 3rd-Party Plug-In Updates.

Uninstall Pro Tools 2020.11 in Windows ‘Programs & Features’

Run the free CCleaner:
https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download
Then run CCleaner Registry multiple times until there are no more issues to fix (usually needs 3 times for me)

Restart computer

Install Pro Tools 2020.12

Restart computer

Delete the Pro Tools 2020.12 Folder:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Pro Tools
Rename this Folder:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Proof Cools
Call it:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Pro Tools

Restart computer

Launch Pro Tools

Realise 'not uninstalling' works for some,
but Avid recommend 'uninstalling':

Avid Knowledge Base - Pro Tools Installation
https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...s-Installation
Installation Overview:
Installation of Pro Tools includes the following steps:
• Creating Your Avid Master Account
• Retrieving Your Pro Tools | Software License
Removing Previous Versions of Pro Tools | Software
• Installing Hardware Drivers
• Installing Pro Tools | Software
• Starting Up or Shutting Down Your System
• Launching and Authorizing Pro Tools | Software
• Configuring your system for improved performance

As do Sweetwater:
Pro Tools Download and Install Guide
https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare...tools-12-2018/

I realise Mac owners can have multiple installs (renaming older versions required)

Uninstalling isn't required, and in some cases there will be no advantage to it, but in *some* cases an uninstall will leave you with a more solid update. Therefore, it's suggested, but (typically) not mandatory. I tend to uninstall about 50% of the time.

Over time, unwanted files leftover from iffy updates can begin to create issues.

Just installed PT 2020.12.0 yesterday. Uninstalled PT 2020.11.0 from the control panel/programs and features but kept my preferences. The uninstall automatically uninstalled Avid Effects, Avid HD driver and PT 2020.11.0. Re-booted Windows 10 Home version 2004 and installed PT 2020.12.0. Seems to work great!

I run a mac, and no need to uninstall. I installed the upgrade and have been up and running with no issues.
