Default 001 Boot Hang at DigiSystem™ INIT

After installing my 001 and Protools LE things worked OK. However, about 75% of the time after I reboot the system hangs loading DigiSystem™ INIT. If I reboot with DigiSystem™ INIT disabled my computer boots fine. I copy a new version of DigiSystem™ INIT into the System Folder and then my system usually works OK until another reboot or two. This even happens if I just have the Mac OS 9 only extensions with Digi extensions. Any idea why about 75% of the time my system hang while booting at loading the DigiSystem™ INIT ?

Thanks,

Jeff Z

I have the same problem, except about 40% of the time. System:

G4 400 PCI
OS 8.6
OS 8.6 BASE extensions + digi extensions +
Griffin iMate USB extension
Digi 001 PCI card
Adaptec 2930 SCSI card (not for audio)

This is actually common guys. It has been going on since the b&w g3 machines first came out. Technically speaking, there's some reprogramming of (I believe the PCI bridge chip) that optimizes your machine for audio recording/playback. In the course of this reprogramming, your mac sometimes freezes. A restart (or 2) should get you going.

Thanks alot for clearing this up,...Will this only cause a problem during bootup or can it cause freezes while up and running ?? Cheers / Marlowe

This is only an issue at bootup during the reprogramming of the PCI bridge chip, and will not cause any problems while up and running.

Well that's strange: I have about the same setup as you guys: never had a hanger for a week or two, since I first booted up...

G4/350 /\/\/\ 2940UW in slot 1 / 001 in slot 2 / Miro DC20 in slot 3

I do have other problems: PT is telling me the PCI bus is too busy to play a DC20 movie (even without trying to)....

Digi ? What's up ?

Thanks for the response. Now I know that this is a problem and I won't spend a lot of time trying different things to make it work. Of course the obvious question is are we going to get this fixed ?

Arno

Testing is still working with Video Capture cards and 001 systems. A 6042 error usually indicates a PCI bandwidth issue over the PCI bus so until we get news from testing try the usual suspects.
•Try audio on the internal ATA drive and video on the drives connected to the 2940 or just video from the ATA bypassing the 2940.
•Try the system without the 2940 installed.I don't see this card supported on our compatibility documents.
