Riding the Heatwave

Last 2 days were both over 41°C in the shade (about 106° F).
No air-conditioning (by choice).
Early 60's double-brick with 1 metre eaves all round: 34°C in the house.
(We're lucky – that's easy for us - we're used to 46° - you just have to be sensible about it: water bottle, hat and long sleeved cotton shirt when outdoors).

Polyester (Poly) batts in the roof add both sound-proofing and insulation - and lower the temperature here by 7° in Summer. They're easy to install and not itchy to handle. The higher the 'R Value', the greater the insulating effect.

2 @ $20 fans keep the air moving.
When outdoors, the humble spray bottle of water (with towel), plus a damp flannel around the neck, is the easiest way to stay cool.

I can appreciate this, my central AC unit broke last summer and we found this to be the single most effective method for keeping the house cool. One blowing out a window upstairs, and one pulling cooler air in a window downstairs made a huge difference,

It's never a good idea to poke a sleeping bear. Unless you are a bigger bear.
