Default speaker placement question

ok i have a question about speaker placement...i know now that you are supposed to have a "equillateral triangle" to the mix position for the speakers. but this was built before i had heard that all distances must be equal. as you can see from the pthoto in the link below, the speakers are 66 inches apart from each other,.....but only 33 inches from each speaker to each of my ears.......( i know you might want to tell me to move back but if i do that i wont be able to even reach the table or my keyboard).......since the distances from each speaker to my ear is the same....will this be ok? the only difference is that the speakers themselves are farther apart.......am i gonna have any weird pshasing/calcellation issues? or will it be fine

If you move the speakers from the outer stands to the inner ones, you should be much better off, because then it will pretty much be the proper triangle with you sitting in the chair.

Having these not set right won't be an issue of phasing or anything, it's just that having the triangle will allow you to more accurately hear and make decisions about panning and the stereo image.

well the other set of speaker stands are where the yahmaha hs50's go...they just werent there in that particular picture.....so you think my mixes will come out ok tonally still even if the speakers are that far apart?...they are both the same distance from my ears at least hehe

I guess the best thing to do would be to periodically lean back or push your chair back.

Maybe you can focus on panning using the HS50's, then back up and double check on the other speakers.

yeah thats what i do mostly i use the high resolution and accuracy of those yahmahas, and then i listen to the mix in the krks to get a more real world idea concerning bass....because you cant use the hs50 to listen to the bass part of your song as even the hs80s are way lacking in bass

Another option would be to get some of those monitor stands that stand on the floor, such as these:

http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...ree?sku=452067

(Note that I am not necessarily recommending these particular stands as I have no real knowledge of them, but there are other makes and models that may prove more suitable.)

You could place these on the other side of the table from your sitting position and "stack" both sets of speakers on them...

Have you seen the ones that are custom made for the Barefoot monitors?

$340.00 each...course if you can afford the $8,000 for a pair of Barefoots the stands are just chump change...

Then there's the $4,000 desk (furniture) for the $5,000 SSL Matrix...
