My first suggestion would be for you to download and read through, (at least part of), the manual.

Then, go to Youtube and Digi and watch videos...

This is a good place for you to start answering your questions.

If you mean make audio overdubs for film or video, then you must have everything synched so that your video doesn't look like a badly dubbed foreign movie.

If you mean make overdubs as in correction mistakes in, for example, guitar solos, then you must learn the magic art of punching in and out on the fly (the old fashioned way) or learn how to make in and out points in your recording session for that particular instruments.

Whatever the case may be, voice or instruments, make sure the talent knows what they're doing and have learned the part they have to fix very well.
