Default Using Midi to control external device?

Hey -
I am not midi saavy by any stretch of the imagination. For some reason some tracks I recorded on a Roland 2480 are not importing into Protools correctly - they have a nasty amount of hiss. We did something wierd on the Roland when we recorded it. Therefore - I need to dump audio tracks into the Digi in real time through the optical ins. (any other ideas?) What I need to know how to do is control a Roland 2480 with the Digi MIDI out so that I can dump down in real time. Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks
