HD Native not working on new MacBook Pro 17" Quad-Core, Magma EB1H
After uninstalling, reinstalling, the same error happens... in Digitest, the Omni/HD IO interfaces show "no firmware present," and ProTools HD 9.01 can't see them when opening. Obviously, these computers are not on the Digi-approved list yet, but I wanted to throw this out there because everything works fine on a MacBook Pro 17" from 2009 (and the interfaces show up properly in Digitest).
This is with the HD Native card in a Magma EB1H expansion chassis, and tests/works fine on the 2009 MacBook 17 and a 2010 Mac Pro (with the HD Native card internal in the computer, or in the Magma and linked to the Mac Pro via the Magma PCIe host card). Outside of this computer being so new and not approved, has anyone seen this "can't find firmware" error before, and solved it? -kevinmac |

Re: HD Native not working on new MacBook Pro 17" Quad-Core, Magma EB1H
Do you need to install any sort of driver or firmware in the macbook pro so it recognizes the express 34 host card?

Re: HD Native not working on new MacBook Pro 17" Quad-Core, Magma EB1H
No, Magma doesn't have drivers for the Mac, and HD Native doesn't require a separate driver download like HD, Eleven Rack, etc. So, it looks like it will require an update fix... the error in Digitest specifically says "Firmware missing"... and even lets you update the firmware on the interfaces to the latest version, but then still doesn't recognize them properly.

Re: HD Native not working on new MacBook Pro 17" Quad-Core, Magma EB1H
First thing to check is the Magma cable.
If you incorrectly connected the Magma cable to host card and eb1 it will exhibit the problem that you've encountered. There's a certain way or proper way to connect the Magma cable to Host card and EB1. Here is the link on visual instructions on how to properly connect the EB1 cable. http://magma.nfpondemand.com/MRcgi/M...CTID=2&MR=2507 |

Re: HD Native not working on new MacBook Pro 17" Quad-Core, Magma EB1H
It's not the connection cable... the same configuration works fine in an older MacBook Pro and a new Mac Pro 12 Core. It's not the Magma, since that works fine on those computers. It's a verified bug with ProTools on the new MacBook Pro 17's, ONLY with PT HD Native, not with PT 9 "standalone"--meaning I can run PT9 on the computer just fine otherwise... I recorded through an Eleven Rack tonight, with no issues, but when the PT HD Native system is hooked up, the same error occurs.
Just to be sure, I installed a blank HD into the laptop and installed 10.6.6 from scratch, loaded ProTools, Pace drivers, etc... ran everything and the same error occurred. The issue has been reported to Avid, so hopefully a fix is coming. |
