Default 001 Sync to Analog

I run a small recording studio which up til a month ago was mainly analog. I've taken the plunge into the dark side and bought myself an early G3 233mhz, Logic Platinum, MOTU MTP/AV and of course a 001. Will I be able to do any better than Trigger Sync (as the store I bought it from promises), or will I have to return the 001 and go for a MOTU 1224 or 2408 in order to get resolved sample accurate Sync? My main recording machine that I need to Sync with is an M1200 Ampex 2 inch 24 track. Any suggestions to clarify this?

A MOTU Digital Time Piece. Send it Smpte. Send SPDIF out of the DTP to the 001. This provides digital clock sync to the 001. DTP is the master referencing to the Time Code. The DTP also provides Positional Sync. Put Protools in SPDIF sync in the session setup window. It works perfect!!

Dan, Does yours work perfect now? I still seem to get unavoidable error messages when no smpte is being fed into the DTP.
