THE WEIRDEST THING I've Ever Seen in PT
Hello Everyone !
I am in the middle of a session- PT 7.3, MacBook Pro 4GB RAM, Digi 002R. I just recorded an audio file, where after the end of a guitar track there is an additional audio wave image in the region, but there is NO AUDIBLE signal !!!! As a matter of fact, I didn't play a note there, but all of a suden I have a clear wave image, like there was a note there. The strangest thing is, when I keep zooming in on that "wave" it disappears after some certain magnification ( I can see about 4 seconds duration of the session on my 17 inch screen), when I zoom out it reappears. There is an image of the audio wave, but there is no audible signal there. There is a silence, as it should be, because I didn't play anything there ! Did anyone experience anything like this before ? What's the reason for an audio imege where it is a silence ??? Chris7514 |

Re: THE WEIRDEST THING I've Ever Seen in PT
Hey Chris,
I had something very similiar to what you're talking about happen back when I had a much earlier version (PT6.4 or something). I don't think I ever resolved it, though I clearly remember several times (maybe a half dozen) where files showed a full (and cut off, as I recall) audio region, but there was no sound. And it was in a place on a track where there was actually nothing recorded, so it made sense that there was no sound. But it was so odd to see the cut-off audio track there. And yes, the odd audio file also disappeared when I zoomed in at a certainly magnification. Strange! Nonetheless, it did seem to play correctly, regardless of the very odd audio file signal. Ragani

Have you tried trashing prefs yet?

some very low end signals will show up as wave but you can't hear them. Not saying that is what you have but it might be. I was just listening to some recordings of my stomach growling and I was getting amplitude on my Zoom H4 that ought to have been audible but I was hearing nothing.

I too remember this from early PT days. Unfortunately I can't remember an explanation to the phenomenon. I say again: this happened to me, on PT 6.something. |

Re: THE WEIRDEST THING I've Ever Seen in PT
When I was running 7.3 - 7.4(cs3?) I had an issue just like this. I'm on a PC though. Not sure if it matters. Sometimes aside from a random note on the waveform thats not really there, the waveform would also show up late, or missing sections in then middle.
Highlight the track that has the messed up waveform, then go to 'Recalculate Waveforms'. See if that corrects the problem. If that does it, you can officialy feel better that they took care of it at some point in the 7.4 updates. But feel worse about the fact that your gonna have to shell out some money to upgrade. Then again... PT8 is nice.

Re: THE WEIRDEST THING I've Ever Seen in PT
From time to time I see the same thing happening. I have no explanation, but "recalculate waveforms" fixes it.

Re: THE WEIRDEST THING I've Ever Seen in PT
I have also had this happen in 7.4. but there is an easy fix, try reconsolidating the region and it will show the CORRECT waveform

If the problme is just the visuals of the waveform, "recalculate waveform" will reread and reprint an accurate waveform, without the extra audio file being created. Just a question, and my thoughts! Nick
