I am currently Spec'ing out an i7-based WinTel PC with PCI and PCI-e slots, so I'm covered. That way I get the CPU power without needing to do a card exchange.

$8K for new Mac Pro + Card exchange vs. $1.5K for an i7 PC = No Contest.

Next project that results in some excess funds, I'm going over to the Dark Side.

I did that last year and after 10 months of nightmare, I crawled back to my G4 dp 1.25.
In the end, I wasted $1800 that could have paid for an expansion chassis.
Stable again, albeit, very slow.
Have my favorite pluggins back too.

Saving up for the inevitable upgrade.

Actually if you build your system as a copy of working systems from others and actually only need to run PT it's not a problem at all. Some keyboard shortcuts need to be re-learned as using command and control have strange differences

You´re probably right, but as soon as I´d run into trouble and bugs I think I´d feel totally lost. I´ve been working with Pro Tools on a mac for 20 years now and though I´m not a technical expert I´ve learned a lot about fixing problems with Pro Tools on a mac.
My wife uses a PC at home and I just hate the way these monsters tick.
