Default Grounding Issue (i think).. could use some help

I am getting a wierd noise out of my monitors when i have PT or ITunes open using my G5 .. i have a 190kb sound clip of the noise . (it is much worse on the mp3 than in real life) When i use my powerbook i dont get the problem.

Is this a grounding issue? It only seems to happen when the computer's processor is working.. it's not loud at all.. just annoying.. i cant hear it during playback.. only when the program is idle... I can also replicate it when i take a splitter (a cheap HOSA cable) out of the line out on the back of the computer into my Hafler p1500.. I tried everything.. running it w/o displays.. different outlets.. for some reason it is worse when the computer is on the right side of the desk..

My setup:
G5 running 6.2.2 w/ 002
1.5 G RAM
Hafler P1500 powering NS-10's (12 gague copper cable between the amp and speakers)

any advice would be appreciated..

thanks,
petr

Poor cable shielding maybe? Sounds more like interference than grounding.

Unfortunetly it's the computer. I'm having the same problem with my new Dual G5. It may be the power supply in the G5. Go here and read all about it.

I listened to your clip, but it is kinda hard to say if what you are hearing is as obious and loud as it seems , when I listen to the mp3.

I have dual G5 , 002r, and Roland ds-50 monitors. I have wierd noise.
I have tried sending to the monitors, optical, spdif and also monitor out left/right.

This noise of mine happens (for sure) when I open Protools LE, and I believe also if I start a audio app (re: Bias / Reason) utilizing core audio with digi.

Opening the Protools application, without opening any tracks I get this noise which , cycles (although I can't really get a consistent timing figured out) It is an odd thing I have a hard time figuring out where is is actually coming from, although I am convinced that it is coming from the 002r unit itself. It is not the same noise as when the 002r is turned on and firewire is registering. The noise kinda reminds me of the sound a older PC would make when the PC was looking for a floppy in the floppy drive, but there was no floppy there, or when these things began to write to the floppy. The sound is much less loud than this, much fainter, more stealth.

This noise continues as long as Protools is going, it is really only noticable when everthing is silent. It does not register in any record enabled tracks, at least by judging by the level meters in any record enabled or playing tracks.

anyone out there have anything similiar.

I tried everyting on My Powerbook 12" G4, and no noise. (by the way the 867 12" 1st edition, could not play back the salvation demo from the internal HD, not without disabling some RTAS)

thanks

Yes! I have the same problems. I'm on my 2nd Dual G5 and it's no different. I have very bad noise level coming from anything audio with this machine. Internal soundcard and any external audio device. We're not the only ones having these issues. It needs to be fixed.

does it sound like it makes the noise when the processor starts working? it sounds like we all have the same or similar problem.. and all have G5's...

could be, i'll pay atention to that. I tried automatic and full speed ahead on the processor option in the energy panel. I think perhaps it may be different, but not gone.

I was also thinking that it may be interfering with the G5 optical (in /out) ?

I disabled the option to use core audio with iTunes, just to take that further away from the situatuion.

I am going to make sure all the optical i/o ports, not in use are also covered.
