Default DAE Error 51 -- Help!!

Hey Everyone,

We saved some sessions to an external Firewire drive.

But now when we try to open them, we get a DAE Error 51. (Which I believe means Protools doesn't recognize the files as coming from a legitimate hard drive.)

We've tried copying the sessions back to the audio drive, but we still get the error message.

Help.... we gotta get these sessions back, so any help would be much appreciated.

Tom.

Tommy,

Have you tried trashing the 3 Prefrences Dae prefs, protools prefs, and digi setup pref ?

I did this just sat and it worked when i transfered the sessions, back to my hard drive from and external drive.

Hope this helps.

Fuzz

Tom,

Are you on OS 9 or X?

In OS X:

-Make sure all drives are formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+) with OS X’s Disk Utility. Pro Tools can not use UFS or HFS volumes. If the drive was originally formatted in OS 9 or with any other application, backup the drive and reinitialize it with Disk Utility.

In OS 9:

For best results, format FireWire drives using the Mac OS:

1-Backup all important data that is on your FireWire drive
2-Highlight the FireWire drive on the Desktop and choose Special>Erase Disk. Choose Mac OS Extended formatting and click OK.
3-Once the drive is formatted, disable/remove all third party FireWire extensions and restart the computer.

Also, once you copy the session back to your internal drive, remove the FW drive from the system before trying to open the session.
