Sound Devices 788T now supports 192 KHz
Not that I'd use it too often but is a nice improvement in performance for 788T recorders.
There are some other very nice added features in v3.0 as well.

Re: Sound Devices 788T now supports 192 KHz
And it's time consuming to tweak and set the machine up to 192kHz.
I hope the new 3.x.x firmware will address these tasks to the machine to adjust it automatically. Quote:
Limiters are needed for loud signal and 48Khz 24 Bit is more than enough for that job. SD788T has wonderful pres and fantastic AD converters. My bet is that NO ONE could hear the difference between 96kHz and 192kHz at this level. It just increases the marketing value of the unit.

Your post is epic fail. Digital limiters are for digital inputs only.

The limiters on the 788 are digitally controlled analogue limiters. They were and still are horrible |

guys, you are talking about two different things. the new firmware adds digital limiters to the digital (AES3 and AES42 digital mic) inputs. This is a new feature that wasn't available before and has nothing to do with the analog ins and limiters. (hence the response to charles' posting.) The limiters that myke2242 is talking about were always there and are in the analog domain (before the A/D of course!!) and are disabled at high SR. (I don't find them horrible btw.) hope this helps.

Re: Sound Devices 788T now supports 192 KHz
It seems that you have no idea. The input limiters of 788T are indeed analog and before AD converters. The new digital limiters are for digital inputs. Their subjective quality was not the topic here, you are mixing things.

Re: Sound Devices 788T now supports 192 KHz
Sorry guys I didn't realize that what we were talking about till now. My concern is the processing power these limiters take as it would be more cycles then the analogue input limiters.
I still dislike the 788 limiters. I perviously own a 744 which had great sounding limiters. Many of those who owned a 744 and moved up to the 788 were disappointed with the limiters for many reasons. |
