M3 With Eucontrol

I'm running PT 2023.9.0 on a M3 MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.1.1 without any issues, except Eucontrol crashes as soon as I launch it, then will happily launch on the second attempt every time, but won't connect to the setup, despite everything appearing normal in the 'surfaces', 'Workstations' and 'applications' windows of Eucontrol.

I know this set up is not officially compatible, and I'm still running an M1 to avoid issues, but I was wondering if anyone had a similar setup and had got the M3 and Eucontrol to play nicely together?

Other than the Eucontrol, this setup is great. Working in post, 3 screens, 500-600 voice sessions, multiple busses, video, etc etc, no problems.

What macOS is the M1 system running?... this is very unlikely to be M3 hardware specific. What exactly happens with the crash, is there a crash report/stack trace?

The M1 is running Monterey 12.6.3

Eucontrol crashes almost immediately after I launch it with '... quit unexpectedly.

I've posted the crash report if anyone can read it and work out the issue?

I've had a look through it, but nothing in my limited understanding of crash reports jumps out as the problem.

Looks like it is getting itself into a knot with the Google crashpad system. There was one person reporting strangeness with Pro Tools crashes on an M3 as well that might be related, it might even be the software is failing over something as simple as mishandling system information strings (which then might appear to be M3 specific--or might still be something specific to your setup... would be good to know if others have it working on similar setups). Hopefully Eddie can help here, if this is not already a known thing... would be good to get this into Avid support, without the usual "well it's not supported" insults from support.

Who knows if the later issues are related or not. Is anything logged then? /Users/username/Library/Logs/Avid/EuCon.

I'm unaware of 'Google Crashpad system' but I'll investigate.

And yes, completely aware of it not being supported, and I thank you for not berating me for it.

EDIT - I should've said, when Eucontrol does run, on the second attempt every time, it won't allow me to 'Assign' anything, or create anything under 'Layouts'. But everything under 'Surface', 'Workstations' and 'Applications', is as it should be.

I did not mean you should look at Crashpad, it’s a Google crash reporting utility that Avid includes in products like here, where it is getting its panties/jockstrap in knots over something. Maybe a very quick debug for an Avid developer who is familiar with their crashpad use. The question is really for Eddie… is Avid already well aware of this failure of does he want you to report it to support?

If this was my system I would still have a look at the logs just to see if there are any clues, but may not be worth your time…

Can you try this. With EuContol running, hold Control and right click on the EuControl Icon in the top bar. Check Disable crash reporting. See if that fixes it?

Hi Eddie, thanks for joining in on this.

I've disabled crash reporting and it stops the initial crash, so EuControl now stays running. Thanks

But it still doesn't link to the session I'm running, allow me to assign anything, or import previous layouts that I've saved for these sessions (all greyed out on that page). So no S3 connection, although it still shows it in the Surfaces window and says it's claimed by the Mac I'm using.

'Workstation' says it's 'attached' also.

'Assign' shows the 16 channels on the S3, but doesn't allow me to assign any channel to each fader, only Auto, Attention and Blank.

I've un-installed and re-installed 'EUCON Workstation Unified Install 2023.11', 4 or 5 times now, as I'd seen someone else was having issues and that solved it, but no joy here yet.

UPDATE...... Success

Having put Protools and Eucontrol in and out of launching with rosetta (needed for 1 plugin) a number of times, I tried all 3 combinations one more time and success.

PT and Eucontrol in Rosetta, restart.... magic!!!!

Pretty sure you don't need EuControl running in Rossetta, only PT for that plugin.
