Re: OSX 10.9 Update
Windytree: Why is it Avid's responsibility to reach out to you about compatibility. You just have to google three words "pro" "tools" and "mavericks" to easily find the recommendation. Its irresponsible to upgrade anything on your computer (software OR hardware) without researching compatibility yourself. Even if they had sent out an email, that would not have stopped the other user from installing Mavericks on your machine anyway.
If its your livelihood or even if its nothing more than an investment… it is your responsibility to protect it. Pro Tools will be compatible with Mavericks. They're not just going to NOT release an update. The time frame it takes them will not be driven by how much they don't care about you. YYR 123: I like to upgrade as often as possible because I'm a huge nerd and I'm not afraid to admit it. Yeah, I want my calendar to look like it does on my phone now since I immediately upgraded it to ios7 and yeah, I want apple maps on my computer. Of course, being able to do the job I get paid good money for is way more important so I'll have to put those nerdy desires on hold… but I figured I'd share my own personal reasons for wanting to take advantage of all those fancy minuscule updates Apple gives us every year. |

Re: OSX 10.9 Update
Guys...
It's perfectly okay wanting to stay current. But if you do everything on one machine, including Protools, you need to know when you can upgrade, or accept the consequences if you upgrade too soon. Avid also knows they must support us as soon as they can. Believe me, they work their hardest. They just have a huge test grid and they don't want to release anything half-baked, which is something I myself appreciate greatly. This has been said many times already, but... if your living depends on something, you don't want to break it. You need to plan each and every update very carefully and always have a backup plan. Clone your drive, update, test it, and if it doesn't work the way you want it to, revert back to the backup. That's what I do anyway. I don't give excuses to my clients. I do not have a problem in front of them. That just does not happen. Because I test the new stuff by myself and use what works in front of others. Cheers!

Re: OSX 10.9 Update
For those running Mavericks and PT 10, and having problems, what are the issues? I've been running them on my TDM (Procontrol, 2 192's and lots of plug ins) system since Mavericks came out...on another hard drive just in case, and everything is copasetic.
I'm curious. |

Re: OSX 10.9 Update
I updated my MacBook Pro early 2013 Retina to OS X Mavericks. I'm running PT 11 without any issues at this point.
I look forward to Avid releasing an officially supported update, but until then I would throw myself out there to say if anyone has any specific questions or if there is something you want me to try, please let me know and I'll do what I can to help. |

Re: OSX 10.9 Update
I'm running Mavericks on a separate partition both on my 2008 MacPro and on my 2011 MacBook Pro
and everything runs great, no hiccups yet. ProTools 10.3.7 (HD on the MacPro)

Re: OSX 10.9 Update
state of the art mac OS? you mean the one that is not compatible with most plugins, and even some hard drives?
I would check to see if all the other software you use is also compatible, because much is not.

Ouch - I think 10.8.4 will be the new gold standard myself - 10.8.4 is the new 10.6.8
