So yeah. It's a big one over here.

My best instructor at the BBC training centre in Evesham in the 80s had never ever worked in tv. Previously he taught pilots to fly on simulators for BA before joining Auntie. He was pure gold and by god we learned lots from him. He sure knew how to teach.

Don't always merasure others by your own limited yard stick....

Food for thought?
IMD.. what? No, seriously I agree 100% Mike. Hope it doesn't become as big here as it is across the pond, somehow I fear the tide may already be turning though.

Joel is a good guy, and has been teaching ProTools for a good long while.- I am not sure if being an expert editor or mixer is a requirement for being a good teacher- as those of us who are in the trenches tend to know the rules as well as know where they can be bent or broken. My guess is that Joel did good due diligence in preparing his course work with the input of working pros.

Its the current updated version of 310P not a whole new book, rather the current revision of a book thats been around for over 5 years, just not available unless you were attending the course at a "ProSchool" level digi edu partner.

Having taken the whole audio course at Video Symphony myself I can vouch for Joel Krantz and his books. They are the most in depth text books on Pro Tools out there and this being an updated version of 310P then we know it has gone through the gauntlet at Avid as well for their stamp of approval. That being said the older versions of 210P or 310P were never known for their tips on implementing Pro Tools functions in to a solid real world workflow i.e. it may show what the Preview and Capture functions are but not necessarily explain how to use it clearly. Still I highly recommend his courses.

+1 for a meet at The Dub Stage!

Then, I think it is the title that is the problem. Call it an advanced pro-tools training guide. Not Pro Tools 10 Advanced Post Production Techniques. Unless there are in depth explanation in regards to dialog mixing etc.

This is the new Avid idea - selling their course materials retail but without the trainer to give the content context. It's ridiculous and undermines the work of their education partners.
Do you have any idea how many engineers are prepared to admit they dont know something and actually pay for training? This move makes that number even smaller.
Of course, the book is only half the presentation if the course is taught at a reputable school, but ...yeah. Meh.
