Changing a mic level signal into a guitar level signal with correct impedance
Hi everyone...I posted earlier about recording guitar through an amp and a pod at the same time using some kind of splitter\di box and got a lot of good ideas. I bought a Radial Pro DI for the task. Going into that and Thru to the amp is working great. I was hoping for some miracle that I could run the xlr out of the radial to the input of the pod and still get a good sound (even though i was told that wouldnt work!) That didnt happen. So i tried to run the mic level signal out to a mic pre and then run an unbalanced signalout of that to the pod but that didnt work right either. Did i buy the wrong thing? Am I hooking it up wrong? I know im an amateur but i feel like a real idiot! This doesnt feel like it should be so hard! Ive looked into the recording clean and then reamping which seems cool but i was hoping to track both at the same time...any ideas? Thanks everyone

Re: Changing a mic level signal into a guitar level signal with correct impedance
1. Guitar to (2.)
2. Radial DI A-1. Radial DI "Thru" to the POD A-2. POD output to a channel B. Radial DI "Balanced Out" to a channel I am not sure which POD you have. I am also not sure what front-end or recording interface you have. What's your setup? The answer to this question would help dramatically. The PODxt has +4dB balanced outputs, so you should be able to use a 1/4" TRS to a line level input...

Re: Changing a mic level signal into a guitar level signal with correct impedance
If your DI is anything like mine the xlr output is NOT a mic level signal.
It's line level balanced and you should have a xlr-to-quarterinch balanced cable.

Re: Changing a mic level signal into a guitar level signal with correct impedance
So you want a clean tone and a POD tone, right?
Without amplifier (three tracks, clean DI and stereo effects): 1. Guitar to (2.) 2. Radial DI "Input" A-1. Radial DI "Thru" to POD 2.0 "Input" A-2. POD 2.0 "Left Output" to Digi001 "Input 3" (back panel) A-3. POD 2.0 "Right Output" to Digi001 "Input 4" (back panel) B. Radial DI "Balanced Out" (XLR) to Digi001 "Input 1" (front panel) With amplifier (two tracks, clean DI and amplifier mic): 1. Guitar to (2.) 2. Radial DI "Input" A-1. Radial DI "Thru" to POD 2.0 "Input" A-2. POD 2.0 "Left Output" to Marshall TSL 100 "Input" A-3.Microphone to Digi001 "Input 1" (front panel) B. Radial DI "Balanced Out" (XLR) to Digi001 "Input 2" (front panel) Now, if you wanted to get a clean DI, a POD stereo track, and a mic'd amplifier (total of four tracks), you'll need another DI. In general, I try to track guitar on two tracks; a clean DI (usually a Countryman Type 85) and something to give the guitarist a taste of sound. Sometimes that's taking the time to really get an amplifier sound down, mic'ing it and trying to isolate it. Other times, I just bust out my SansAmp GT-2 and get a sound that's "close enough" for a tracking scratch track that will likely be reamp'd later. Depends on the situation.

Re: Changing a mic level signal into a guitar level signal with correct impedance
Actually what I am looking to do is record the POD into my system on 1 mono track and then at the same time get a signal to my amp not through the POD though, and record that with a mic or 2. So the goal is to be able to blend the POD sound and the Marshall sound on 2 or 3 tracks, 1 for the POD and 1 or 2 for the Amp depending on how many mics I put on the Amp. Maybe there is a product that has a guitar level input with 2 guitar level outputs?

Best to get your head wrapped around how to connect gear; the concepts are simple and will save you a lot of aggravation. 1. Guitar to Morley ABY "Input" (1/4" TS to 1/4" TS) A-1. Morley "A Output" to POD "Input" (1/4" TS to 1/4" TS) A-2. POD "Left Output" to Digi001 "Input 3" (back panel) (1/4" TRS to 1/4" TRS) A-2. POD "Right Output" to Digi001 "Input 4" (back panel) (1/4" TRS to 1/4" TRS) B-1. Morley "B Output" to Marshall "Input" (1/4" TS to 1/4" TS) B-2. Mic 1 XLR to Digi001 "Input 1" (XLR F to XLR Male) B-3. Mic 2 XLR to Digi001 "Input 2" (XLR F to XLR Male) Make sure "A and B" is selected on the pedal. That would give you four tracks.

Re: Changing a mic level signal into a guitar level signal with correct impedance
Hey, Thanks for all the tips..yeah i bought the DI on the request of a sweetwater sales/tech associate after explaining what i was trying to accomplish, It's my own fault though, i knew deep down that the XLR out of the DI would't work to either the POD or the Amp..I dont know what the heck i was thinking! I didnt know that morley switch existed..sounds like just what I need...although that low Z to Hi Z transformer cable seem like it might work too...! Thanks again!
