Default 96/io to apogee Rosetta 800?????????

Will I have a problem if I ditch 96/io(digi) and replace with Rosetta 800. I already use big Ben and rosetta 200(no digi card) with96(I/o).

If you prefer harsh digital recordings then yes, you'll have a problem. If you prefer to hang onto the money it will cost you to buy the Rosetta, you'll have a problem. If you once dated the CEO of Apogee but now you're just jealous that she didn't end up with you, you may have a problem.

Otherwise, how could there possibly be a problem? Unless it doesn't have the particular I/O you need, but I can't imagine that would be true if you're currently using a 96. You'll need an X-Card, but that's easy enough to get, and you'll be very happy you did.

Thank you very much for the input, but I was refering to stability wise with pro tools without a digi interface like my apogge stuff not being seen by digi when I get the cards to interface direct to pro tools. Thanks in advance

The Apogee stuff works just fine when using the XHD cards to interface directly into the PTHD cards. There was an issue early on with the Rosetta800, but that was addressed in firmware. HOWEVER---the cost of the Rosetta800 w/XHD card....... let me throw you a curveball. You have the 96I/O, yes? May I suggest a FOCUSRITE ISA828 8ch pre with the A/D card. Price wise this is about the same, converters on input are not too far off, and you double your inputs. This would connect via ADAT into the 96I/O. So you get 8-channels of some killer pres, 8-channels of better than the 96I/O converters, 16-total inputs, and you're really not changing your system at all. In addition, we might still want to look at a 2-ch D/A converter for your monitoring---that is a benefit of the Rosetta800. I don't know, just throwing this out there...

Well, yes and no. You can get the X-HD card for the Rosetta 800 and use it with your PT|HD rig instead of the 96 i/o, however it will not be sample accurate to ProTools, meaning you will have to calculate and manually compensate when using outboard gear as inserts.

The only 3rd party interface that integrates flawlessly with PT|HD is the Lynx Aurora with the LT-HD card. It is both sample and port accurate to the 192 i/o which is what PT|HD is hard coded around. It is also a better sounding converter in my opinion because there is no coloration of the sound. Plus, in 1U of rack space you get 16x16 analog AND 16x16 AES/EBU digital i/o (yes, a 32x32 interface). You can add 1 Aurora16 per card in your system.

Although subjective----I can't honestly say that the LYNX converter sounds better than the Apogee. Likewise, I can't honestly say that the APOGEE sounds better than the LYNX. Just because a converter has no coloration well, that doesn't equate to "Better sound". It's true, some prefer no coloration at all......some do. Knowing Masterlink's studio and his music, I'm leaning on the tendency that he probably does want some warmth, punch, a little coloration, etc. But ultimately, that's his decision-----but I do stand behind my curveball with the ISA828 option.

First off I love the idea of the focusrite with lots of I/O(might keep 96i/o for this option in future. What I'm trying to do is use the 8 outs of Rosetta 800 to go to DANGEROUS d box(summing bus) hopefully will sound better than 96i/o. The d box has a d/a so I can monitor. Nice feauture which I might say was a extra with dbox purchase.

Okay well if you're talking about those outputs for summing----then that DOES make sense. You didn't say that in the first place
