Default Channel Strip on 11r

How cool would that be? A dedicated moveable Channel Strip block (EQ/gate/compressor) available in the signal path. Bypassable but always there, like the Volume block.

We can kind of construct it using the ParaEQ and Dyn3 blocks but then we lose FX1 and FX2 functionality. I doubt the both of them together use up much DSP juice at all, the Digirack versions don't seem to make a dent in ProTools, even on my 2008 Macbook.

My latest slew of high gain patches have the Graphic EQ in between the Dist and Amp blocks to help control the feel and shape the distortion. Since the vast majority of tones need to be filtered (post-cab ParaEQ) in some way to avoid rumbling lows, I run out of blocks where I can insert a compressor.

Whaddya guys think?

that would be helpful. I don't like having to lose 2 slots for EQ and compression.

A channel strip or just letting us use ANY effect in ANY slot.

A GLOBAL EQ and Compressor would be nice too.

And a Whammy pedal

I think it's a good idea.... not for guitar though. It's set up the way it needs to be for guitar.

If I were Avid, I would change the external appearance a bit, replace the trueZ guitar input with another mic pre, and install a GUI like you said.

Aimed right at products like the Liquid Saffire, targeting vocalists, or engineers who want two completely programmable/recallable channel strip.

I think it's a perfect idea for guitar. I'm often adding ParaEQs and Dyn3's to my signal chain, I think having it all in one block would be extra convenient. The addition of a real gate (with full controls, with option to key off the input) would be extremely welcome as well.

If they could fit it into one block it would be a great idea. Remember that people do record things besides guitar also. Even if you mapped the blocks across multiple modules it might come in handy from the point of recalling a favorite preset.

My thinking is that when people look at the ElevenRack, they think guitar. Of course, people have been using tools for purposes other than their intended, or obvious use for decades, but the point remains.

They could expand their market with a product that is perceived to be a channel strip, for vocalist, or other people who generally record acoustic sources. Similar to Focusrite's liquid channel.

I think you're missing the point. I would say the vast majority of times anyone uses 11r, it's going through some sort of channel strip. Whether you're using ParaEQ/Dyn3 on 11r itself, or plugging it into a console, or using plugins on your guitar track - these are all essentially different forms of the same thing.

All I was suggesting is a new block that is always in the signal path - like the Volume block, moveable and bypassable - that consolidates EQ/comp/gate controls. It doesn't have anything to do with the sounds being recorded, it could be guitars, vocals, keyboards or anything else. A channel strip block would just take all the fundamental audio tools and put them in one block.

I get what you're saying. I think we're saying the same thing. The interface is designed with the guitar player in mind. What you're asking for would be a little more generic. I agree with that, but believe this is an excellent opportunity for Avid to branch out & build on what is ElevenRack. They can put the blocks in Eleven, we're using it as if anyway... but for a guitar player (speaking for myself) I like the guitar rig paradigm.

I say all this in my most respectful tone.... not trying to be argumentative.
