Default mixer layout

just wondering how people are laying out and organizing their on screen mixers these days. I remember a thread from a little while back but I can't find it.

When you have more tracks than will fit in a single window, where do you put your master fader and auxes? Lead vox? Do you keep sliding tracks around or do like to keep them in the same place so you can find them faster?

in the other thread I remember someone using deactivated tracks as "dividers" in the absence of any decent color coding available in Pro Tools (ahem)

The best way for me with big session is to use memory location with
Hide/Show tracks selected
in that way I can show group of channel like I want - Rhythm section - guitars - vocals etc...
with a simple command - period { memory location number } period ...

I prefer to create groups of instruments, deactivate them and CTRL click on it's name: this will only show the tracks inside the group and hide the rest. And on the other hand, I put my EFX returns on the right side of the window, including the master faders.

NARAS posted a ProTools delivery guidline

http://charlesdye.com/ptguidelines2.0.pdf

it has suggested layouts

audio tracks left most in mixer (top most edit) then aux's & Masters

audio track layout is a personal preference but most people seem to stick with the old analog console style

kick
snare
hat
toms
ovHd's
bass
gtrs
keys
vocal

etc......

aux subs are usually located next to the tracks they asre subbing and fx returns usually live bottom of the edit window with master faders

once again... no rules... just suggestions

just please... label your tracks and buses
