We don't have any known issues with any particular cards, and we don't test them on the Mac, since Macs have shipped with Firewire ports for years. So there is no "approved" list. But a number of people do use them for their systems. I have an older MacAlly USB/Firewire combo PCI card on my 9600, but I rarely use it for recording since I have a SCSI setup on there as well.
Maybe someone can help you, but a bit more info would be useful:

What computer and Digi hardware are you using?
What model of Adaptec Firewire card, and what do you have hooked up to it?
What other PCI cards do you have in the system?
What card order?
What Mac OS?

We use Belkin cards for firewire/usb - but not for recording. I don't think you'll be able to record to a firewire drive using any card- just too much traffic on the PCI buss. We have beige G3 minitowers with G4 upgrade chips. Just about any firewire card we tried worked
as a way to offload large projects to firewire drives. None worked as recording interfaces.

..the mac is a G4 (400Mhz ) and the reason why I needed a Pci to firewire card is because the onboard firewire has stopped working and I needed a temporarily solution before I get it fixed.
I dont need the firewire for recording. I just use it for trasfering files on a firewire drive and for using a firewire CD burner.

however , the exact set up is:
G4 400Mhz Agp graphics
protools 5.1.1 Mix plus
slot 1 - mix card 1
slot 2 - mix card 2
slot 3 - (was) Adaptec DuoConnect (firewire/USB)

THANKS
