EQ3 goes crazy after re-opening session
I have a huge list of ridiculous bugs, but never took the time to mention it somewhere because it'll just get me more frustrated. (You'll find this out as reading this article progresses...) This one I want to share. It has happened now with different projects, so not just one time. Hopefully Avid reads along.
I have some busses, each one has a perfectly tuned EQ3 7-band for different voices. They're in read mode, so no automation. Great. Project finisheded and send to client. Client want's something changed. I open the project again. EQ3's are f*cked up. Some of the parameters are just totally random, it makes no sense at all. Hell. I'll open an older version. EQ3's still f*cked up. I open backup sessions, and even older versions. EQ3's still remain f*cked up. So this insane mad huge bug affects ALL versions of your project. There is no way back! And this is one of the core plugins, a simple EQ! Not even linear phase ore something, just a basic EQ. How pro is a program where you can't even rely on the EQ? Do I have to check all freakin' EQ's in the entire project by making screenshots of them and comparing them? HOW can I work normally, knowing things like this can, and will happen? And don't tell me that with the new AAX plugins all troubles are gone. I don't believe a s**t of that. I'm confident that PT11 will just have as many vague, weird and insane bugs as PT10. Upgrading to a newer version of PT10 also has never solved any of the many, many bugs this 'pro'gram has. They're also never mentioned in the update log. So I'm not wasting yet another day doing yet another update that resets everything again and probably even introduces some new bugs. When this project is finished (I dare not to close the session until the client is satisfied) I'll see if I can reproduce this bug in a video. |

Re: EQ3 goes crazy after re-opening session
Trashing prefs is step #1 for "odd' behavior(and this sounds pretty odd to me)

enable everything in the automation window, select all tracks, all latch select from start to end, playback, alt+capture, punch capture, manual-write automation-to-selection. There are some bugs with plugins not remembering their state, so I always automate a default/neutral/expected state for every plugin for the whole session prior doing anything.

Just put all tacks into Write and press play for a second. No need to do all that. |

Re: EQ3 goes crazy after re-opening session
Thanks for the correction; I was thinking the unnecessary complex way.
At least enable plugin parameter must be done though ?

Correct. To capture all parameters, auto enable pref must be checked and all parameter types must be "armed" |

So if I leave those tracks in write instead of read, this should not happen? |

Re: EQ3 goes crazy after re-opening session
Doing what I suggest will create fixed break points for all enabled parameters so each time you hit play everything will stay put. The downside is that if you need to make any changes, you'll be fighting the automation.
