Default PTF with Dell Inspiron 5000

Have PTF, want to know if anyone knows of a simple (inexpensive?) spdif i/o for pcmcia slots (or other port; have USB and parallel)on the Dell Inspiron 5000. Have been putting audio into the computer via line in, but would like to load digitally.
Also, would like to record and edit 2 to 4 tracks (small files)in PTF on the Inspiron's internal 20gig 4200rpm ati hard drive. Any tips on doing this so that PTF doesn't lock up? (800mhz,128 meg ram) Thanks!
