Tracking multiple drums
Hello everyone.
I want to record my 10 piece drumset but be able to mix and effect each mic separately once recorded. Do I need 10 separate inputs or can I go directly from my 32-track mixer into say an Mbox? If not, what are some possible solutions please? Regards, Deryl |

Re: Tracking multiple drums
HI,
you need 10 inputs but none of the digi inputs comes with 10 inputs installed, they "only " have 8. so you need to record each track sequentially with an MBOX or buy an additional AD converter with a ADAT interface, giving you 8 more inputs with a digi 001/002 or an A/D with S/P DIF output giving you the 2 more inputs needed. or one HD system. regs

Re: Tracking multiple drums
So I could connect an A/D converter to a Digi001 or 002 but not to an Mbox?
Thanks. |

Re: Tracking multiple drums
That is correct. The Mbox only has SPDIF which is stereo. The 001 and 002 models have ADAT lightpipe in/out and there are a few decent 8 channel mic pre's with lightpipe out. Focusrite Octopre(w/optional card) Digimax 96, Digimax LT are the most popular. Actually the 002 models can record up to 18 inputs, 8 on lightpipe, 4 mic pres internal, 4 line inputs by using external mic pres and 2 on the SPDIF input with an external 2 channel pre.

Re: Tracking multiple drums
What good are the SPDIF inputs for? Is there a mic pre I can buy that has SPDIF outs?
Thanks again. |

Hi,

in case you want some better D/A conveters than the MBOX has or to add a MicPre or a Reverb with loss of audioo quality. Quote:

Re: Tracking multiple drums
Hi Guys, sorry for jumping in but I am wondering about the same question with my drums. Could I plug in a MOTU 828 into the optical in port on my 002 rack and use the pre's on it for extra inputs?
