8.0 + always ran great in windows 7. But once you go to 8.1.1 the drivers for the HD hardware will be rejected by the OS...nothing to do with PT itself.

I know what you mean, but in the end effect it is not so funny, if you have to spend hours for something that should be fixed by the ones who said: “Although not officially supported, Pro Tools HD 8.1-8.1.1 can be used on Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit). No additional drivers are required for HD systems.“
And it's not difficult to fix this - they just need to sign that driver!

However, since my last post I am running v8.1.1 with v8.1 drivers and did not recognize any problems! I did many things the last weeks: recording, mixing till my HD2 Accel reached 100% system load and also used structure free. (Somewhere I read about problems with these creative suite plugins)

I don’t want to run my windows all the time in this test-mode. When you are in there installing some software, every driver can be installed without notice and this may cause other problems in windows. This mode is for software/driver development and should not be used in a professional working environment. That’s just my opinion about this.

Trying v9 drivers would be interesting but I didn’t find any download. If you have a link I would download it and try if there appear issues with my current setup v8.1 drivers.

But I think and hope that there are no problems using v8.1 drivers. That’s what I recommend to all the ones who have the same problem using Windows 7 x64.

Best regards

I think using the 9 drivers might be riskier than using the 8.1 drivers as you said. Plus you said they were working so its a no brainer. Would you mind uploading those drivers to my dropbox for me to try out?

You’re welcome.
By the way, I see from your signature that you have software version 9.0.1. Why do you need this then?

I have multiple systems and a few studio locations. My main rig is actually 10, but I have 9 on the other and finally still using 8 on this particular setup. Ran a 6 hour full band session last night and was rock solid.

thanks!

I just want to add the following here:

If you want to use Ethernet DAW-Controllers using the Digidesign Ethernet Support protocol you have to install the same version of this protocol as your running Pro Tools is.
So if you are running Pro Tools v8.1.1 with v8.1 Audio Drivers you have to use v8.1.1 of Digidesign Ethernet Support (install during Pro Tools 8.1.1 Update)

technique to install PTHD 8.1.1 on win 7 (PCI cards: core + 2 accel)

install HD card hardware, boot computer
Install 8.0 from the original CD
Follow directions as to when to connect or disconnect digi-cables to cards
reboot as indicated.

Close Protools
Update to 8.05
Find C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers
Right click on 'Drivers' folder and Copy and then . . .

Paste whole 'Drivers' folder onto Desktop
Find C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers
Right click on 'Drivers' folder and Copy and then . . .
Paste whole 'Drivers' folder onto Desktop

Update to 8.1.1 following directions
reboot as indicated

Open C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers

rename MMRrefresh.exe to MMRrefreshbak.exebak
Delete all files in "C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers" but
don't delete the Folder

Open the Drivers folder that was placed onto the Desktop earlier
Lass everything in the driver file (the 3 subfolders and the MMERREFRESH.EXE file) and COPY

OPen C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers, and paste the folders and files
you just copied into the C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers

Reboot the computer

Open My computer, and go to system properties at the top, system devices,
and then into device manager.
Under unknown devices you should find a long list of Mediacontrollers and 2 PCI bridges, each of which should have the yellow problem icons.

Right click the top problem icon in the list, and choose update driver.
You will then manually direct the computer to the location to where the drivers are.

Choose C:/Program Files (x86)/Digidesign/Drivers
This will then install the first driver, and that line will dissapear; reappearing
now under the Sound video and game controllers section of the devices.
Do the same for each remaining problem icon, line after line.

You now should have a fully operational installation of 8.1.1 running on Windows 7.

Remember also that you may need to update certain options (like mp3 option) and certain plugins that can be found on the Avid site under 8.1. downloads.

I am currently working on getting the Creative Collections working. But for now everything appears to be working within the known issues of 8.1.1

If you need, please feel free to give me a shout at [email protected]

Regards,
Mark
