Well, how do you call this? After first 6 months of Avid support/upgrade subscribtion:

For $199 a year PT Vanilla users received features from Pro Tools HD.
For $599 a year PT HD users got nothing.

Still wanting more clarification on this. I'm not holding out too much hope at this point but it would be nice to have all the verbiage cleaned up and have Avid stand behind a statement that doesn't include "not at this time" in the FAQ.

Maybe that Marian can chime back in? She is always good for string it up and then Avid deleting anything she had to say.

Best of luck to all and I hope HD owners get a clear statement before 2016,

Scott

Wow, that was fast

I think that's a win.........they are not budging on the initial 599 but it feel like a win thereafter

Well I got what I wanted I guess. It's pretty clear language that says Avid thinks HD owners need to pay more regardless of the total investment they have paid so far.

This is a completely backward idea to me. I think they are cementing the idea that the only people who will run an HD rig with a card are people with a constant billing stream. Post houses in small markets and the LA and big market studio systems that are left (getting smaller day by day). If you are an artist that wants to make something artful at the highest level will be running standard PT or looking for other options.

Good luck to all,

Scott

Maybe it is not so bad. If one could lapse for 3 years and then get back in for $1000, that would come out to a more reasonable yearly rate. But the main advantage would be to evaluate the state of PT and make an informed decision as to the risks of upgrading. From looking at the PT 12 forum, the update from 12 to 12.1 does not inspire confidence. It seems that a bunch of stuff got broken. Makes me want to stay on PT11.

I feel that if Avid could fix some of the long standing bugs in PT, and not introduce any (or very few) new ones, then they would have a lot more enthusiastic response to 12. I think that many PT users would be willing to pay for updates (bug fixes and stability enhancements) if stuff got fixed without previously working stuff getting broke.

Kind of a shame that all of their development resources seem to be disappearing down the black hole of "Collaboration".

That's how I figured it:

___________________PTHD12______PTHD13______PTHD14
___________________Year 1_______Year 2_______Year 3____ Total
Upgrade now:______ $599 ________ $399 ________ $399 ____ $1397
Upgrade next year: ___$0__________$999 _______ $399 _____ $1398
Upgrade year after: __ $0 _________$0 __________$999 _____ $999
